5 Keep it Simple Ideas
I don’t know about you, but I tend to over-complicate things.
I have so many ideas in my mind that just are not reality. When it comes to my thoughts and my home I’m learning more and more it’s a good idea to just keep it simple. In my business, I teach people all the time that it should be so simple that a 3rd grader could understand it. And although I understand this concept I still so often end up putting in too many thoughts and making things WAY more complicated than they need to be.
The other day I was in the process of writing up some content for one of my FaceBook group pages. I wanted to choose a graphic to coordinate with what I had in mind for the post. I started scrolling through my past photo files for the perfect image. A while later I got frustrated, I was not finding what I wanted so being the problem solver that I am, I started setting up a scene in my home to take the perfect photo myself. I started setting a backdrop, finding some sort of plant or greenery to make it feel cozy, moving out any and all messes from sight. (heaven forbid it actually looks like we live here 😂) Instagram flat lay photography master, here I come! An hour later, now I’m ready, and I gear up my iPhone for the perfect photo. Uh-oh, I better check into the best settings for my phone in this light. An hour and 3 sales pages later I still didn’t have my perfect image. Oh and almost signed up for a 6-week online photography class.
STOP, my brain yelled. You don’t want to be a photographer, you never did!
With a huff, I hop onto Unsplash as a last resort, check out their free stock photos, type in one word and in 2 seconds I had exactly the image I was looking for. (Enter face palm here)
Why couldn’t I have just recognized my strengths and weaknesses and start there? See I LOVE creation. I also love feeling like I can do all the things all the time. (Ego much?) Of course, that’s completely unrealistic. My gifts are different from other people's gifts. And while I can design a beautiful graphic, make my 3 day old, dry shampooed hair look like I just stepped out of the salon and make a party for 20 happen in under a week, photography and many other things just are not in my personal gifting.
And that’s OK!
Here are a few things I’m learning about keeping it simple that may help you too:
You don't have to live in overwhelm. Living a natural lifestyle doesn't have to be hard or confusing.
